Which year was Yamaha upright Piano with serial number X 2534054 built?
Somebody recommended me a Yamaha upright piano with SN X 2534054. I couldn’t get any details about it online, like the dimensions. Plus, I don’t know the difference between Yamaha X series and Yamaha U3 series. Which one is better?
The “X” in the serial number signifies that it was an experimental model. At the time, Yamaha was trying to develop their equivalent of the Swiss Army Knife–a product which would encompass ALL of the qualities of Yamaha’s wide range of products.
So, it turned out to be a truly unique product, and established many industry firsts: The only tennis racket strung with piano strings; the only motorcycle with a keyboard; the only pair of skis with a 6-speed transmission; the only Bass Guitar with electric start; the only Drum kit with a drain plug.
Engineeering was very pleased with its efforts–it was truly a break-through product in terms of versatility. But the Marketing Department was dubious of its appeal to the general public, the Legal Department felt that there were insurmountable product liability issues and Senior Management wasn’t sure if this was a direction that the Corporation should explore. Only a few examples were ever built, and after spending a year on the international Trade Show circuit, most are thought to have been destoyed. You may well be looking at the only remaining example in existence.
