Snare Drum Lessons – Paradiddles
A good Snare Drum lesson to learn are paradiddles. Paradiddles are important as far as snare drum lessons are concerned. It helps and teaches you to get a handle on the Drum Sticks. A basic paraddile follows this pattern while being played by your hands:
Right, Left, Right, Right, Left, Right, Left, Left
Of course if you wanted to start off with your left hand the paradiddle would look like this:
Left, Right, Left, Left, Right, Left, Right, Right
These pattern are the exact same except how they start off.
To build your speed up, practice paradiddles slowly. Always make sure that you keep even spacing between your drum strokes. Once you make use of the drum stick bounce, it will be able to be played fast.
Increase the difficulty by playing certain notes louder once you master basic patterns. You can accent (play louder) notes by using your fingers to give it extra power.
<strong>Playing paradiddles on the entire Drum Set</strong>
Paradiddles are not exclusive to just the snare drum. Try it on toms or even on the hihat. When your in the middle of a song you can use it as a fill. For practice, create some Drum Beats that include paradiddles. Try a a paradiddle with a cymbal and a tom, then add in a snare pattern.
<strong>Double Paradiddles</strong>
Double paradiddles are very similar to single paradiddles. A double pattern would look like this:
Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Left
Play it the other way if you start with your Left.
Everything that we discussed hold true to double paradiddles as well. So practice and master the single paradiddle first. After that you’ll be able to master the double. Always make sure<strong> paradiddles</strong> are one of your<strong> snare drum lessons</strong>.
