What is the advantages and disadvantages of being a singer?

Hi,
I had always wanted to be a singer. But, my parents always object me to do so.
But, I really love singing and want to be a singer.
Can anyone tell me what is the advantages and disadvantages of being a singer?

losing your voice from singing improperly or damaging it. that’s the only disadvantage really haha.
but if you mean like a superstar. perhaps bad publicity and never having your own private life. but a normal singing career liek teacher or in performances is great!
