How to play acoustic Guitar like john mayer?

ive been playing guitar for awhile now pretty good at electric just got a new acoustic and want to learn a little more on it i know plenty of chords but hate sitting there just strumming. i need some advice on how to add a little sumthing to it to make it more interesting while keepin in the same chords.
