How does one properly play Guitar chords?
I recently purchased a beginner guitar kit. I’ve never played before so I’m currently learning the fundamentals of the Instrument. But, I’m having trouble playing certain chords. For example, I am unable to play a Major B chord because I’ve got to cut almost an entire fret in order to play it. I can set my lower fingers, but the stretch in order to cut of the second fret seems impossible.
Do I need to build up finger strength?
Or am I doing something wrong?

I don’t take private lessons. I’m trying to do this on my own.
